Setting up your accounts

There are a few things that new students to TPCA must do to get their digital lives set up. Go through the following directions to get your accounts, email, and calendars up to speed.

Logging into the Mac/PC lab

Every student must use a log-in ID and password to access TPCA’s network computers (Mac and PC). Use the following information to sign in to your new TPCA computer log-in account.

  • Login ID. Your log-in ID will be the last 4 numbers of you student ID account.
(For example, if your ID number was #123456, your log-in would be 3456)
  • Password. Your password will be the last 4 numbers of your student ID, followed by the “@” sign, followed by your family name—all lower case.
(For example, if your ID number was #123456, and your last name was Smith, your log-in would be 3456@smith)

You should be prompted to change your password right away. Please do so. You may change your password at anytime in the future.

Setting up your TPCA GMail/GCal account

Every TPCA student has a TPCA GMail account through Google Apps for Education. Use the following information to set up your TPCA GMail account. (Note: This must be done first through a browser like Safari, Chrome, or Firefox.)

  1. Log into your TPCA email at mail.google.com.
    • Login ID. Your user name is your TPCA email address: the last 4 numbers of your student ID account + “@tpca.tp.edu.tw”.
(For example, if your ID number was #123456, your school email address would be 3456@tpca.tp.edu.tw)
    • Password. Your password will be the last 4 numbers of your student ID, followed by the “@” sign, followed by your family name—all lower case.
(For example, if your ID number was #123456, and your last name was Smith, your log-in would be 3456@smith)
  2. Google will request you to change your password to something you will remember. You will always log into your Google Apps account with your full email address as the username (e.g. 3456@tpca.tp.edu.tw). Your password will be whatever you change it to, so please remember it. This video tutorial explains more.
  3. Optional: Add your Google Apps account into your iPad. Under Settings on your iPad, click on the Mail, Contacts, Calendar tab on the left side. Click Add Account, then Google, and fill in the following settings, and click next:
    Attachment-1
(Remember that for your email address, where it says xxxx@tpca.tp.edu.tw, add in your 4-digit school ID instead of xxxx.)
  4. Once you click Next, your iPad will think for a moment before showing you this screen:
    Attachment-1-1-1
Make sure that each little icon is turned on (green), and then you may Save (or exit from that screen)

TPCA Mail should now be configured to your device. Additionally, your TPCA calendar is also now turned on, so any event you add onto your iPad will be automatically be synced to the internet (and vice versa). On your iPad, click on your Calendar app and wait 30 seconds. If no TPCA events show up, there is one more setting you must click on to get calendars to work.

  1. On your iPad, go to this website:
    https://www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect
  2. Log in with your TPCA email address.
  3. You will get a page that looks like this:
    Attachment-1-2
Click on all the calendars available, especially the Primacy (Academic) calendar.
  4. Once you click Save, turn off your Calendar app, reopen it, and check to see if the events showed up. If not, go find a teacher.
